Parking and Transportation

When operating a motor vehicle on RISD campus, you must follow all State of Rhode Island statutes, including those related to parking. In the case of certain parking violations, you may receive a Rhode Island or City of Providence citation either in place of or in addition to a RISD citation.

RISD administration sets all parking policies, with input from Public Safety (DPS). DPS implements and enforces all RISD parking policies. The institution reserves the right to change parking policies at any time, without advance notice.

Various conditions may temporarily limit access to the institution’s parking facilities, including but not limited to:

• weather conditions
• construction
• special events

RISD is not responsible for any loss or damage to a vehicle, its accessories, or its contents by reason of theft, accident, fire, or otherwise while on RISD property, city streets, or while parked in any lots RISD contracts with outside agencies. In the event of unusual circumstances not covered by established regulations, please contact DPS immediately. Allowing for unusual circumstances is at the sole discretion of the Director of Public Safety or their designee.

Disabled vehicles in parking areas must be reported immediately. The owner or operator is responsible for prompt removal and any associated towing expenses.
