In the Department of Public Safety (DPS), we support RISD’s educational and overall mission by ensuring a safe environment for all students and RISD community members. We patrol on foot, by bike, and in official Public Safety vehicles, and work closely with the City of Providence and Brown University police departments to provide comprehensive safety and security services on campus.

To report a crime, call 401-454-6666 (our 24/7 emergency line) right away: We do not have the authority to make arrests, but we may investigate incidents and detain suspects until Providence Police Department officers arrive.

For non-emergencies, call 401-454-6376 (our line for routine calls): We’ll assess the situation as soon as we’re able and respond accordingly. This is for timely but not urgent issues. To avoid response delays, do not email, text or leave a voice message.
